Voices to End FGM/C 2023 Hybrid Digital Storytelling Workshop, part of our continued partnership with StoryCenter and Asian Women’s Shelter.

Since 2015, Sahiyo has provided various storytelling platforms for community members from all over the world to share their experiences with female genital cutting/mutilation (FGM/C) and advocate for preventing this harmful practice from occurring to the next generation of children. Voices to End FGM/C is one of these platforms.

When & Where is the workshop being held?

Virtual sessions (Zoom) -  Tuesday, August 15th & Tuesday, August 22nd, 2023, from 4-6 pm PST / 7-9 pm EDT.

In-person sessions (Oakland, CA) - Saturday, August 26th & Sunday, August 27th, 2023, from 9 am to 5 pm.

Who can attend?

Open to those who reside in the U.S. who have experienced FGM/C, as well as family members, friends, advocates, and others who would like to share a story connected to FGC. Eligible applicants must be able for all virtual and in-person sessions.

What happens in the workshop?

Each participant will learn to create their own simple video through the use of voiceover audio, still images, and video clips. This participatory media process will be guided by facilitators from Sahiyo and StoryCenter.
