About Our Organization:
Sahiyo U.S. is an award-winning organization dedicated to empowering Asian and other communities to end female genital cutting (FGC) and create positive social change through dialogue, education, and collaboration based on community involvement. By working towards an FGC-free world, we aim to recognize and emphasize the values of consent and a child/woman’s right over their own body. We aim to enable a culture in which female sexuality is not feared or suppressed, but embraced as normal. For more, read about Sahiyo’s storytelling and our history.
We are fiscally sponsored by Empowerment WORKS (EW), which is a U.S.-based civic and social change organization advancing a whole-system approach to a sustainable world. EW partners with non-profit organizations and shares knowledge and best practices to accelerate change through their network, Partners in Empowerment.
Position Description:
This part-time position is virtual and remote, but as programming is specific to the state of Massachusetts, the individual must be located in this state and must be comfortable working independently and traveling for meetings and programs as needed throughout the state.
The Massachusetts Community Training & Technical Assistance (MACTTA) Coordinator will lead efforts to advance the creation of a coordinated, multi-sectoral system of prevention and care to address the underrecognized issue of female genital cutting (FGC) in Massachusetts.
FGC impacts over half a million women and girls in the United States. Within Massachusetts, estimates suggest that the state ranks 12th in the nation for at-risk populations, totaling close to 15,000 individuals impacted by FGC. In 2020, Massachusetts passed a law protecting children from FGC. This role will seek to build on efforts initiated during advocacy of the FGC state law and to further strengthen and formalize a state-wide coalition aimed at creating policies and procedures to address this issue. The Coalition will consist of various stakeholders from state government agencies, civil society, healthcare, social services, survivors, and more. The MACTTA Coordinator will be responsible for engaging with, building, and maintaining relationships with these individuals from across the state.
The ideal candidate for this position is comfortable working with a small but growing organization and can lead our community training and technical assistance programming in the state of Massachusetts. The MACTTA Coordinator will report to the Executive Director and work closely with other programming staff.

- Develop resources for FGC-impacted communities and service providers, including healthcare professionals, educators, and social workers.
